Welcome to the application form for the 2026-27 Onondaga County Poet Laureateship!
The Poet Laureateship of Onondaga County is an honorary position offered to an esteemed poet who has demonstrated significant creative achievement and community contributions.
Appointed biennially by CNY Arts following the recommendation of a selection panel, the Poet Laureate position exists to promote literacy and expression via the arts of poetry and/or spoken word across Onondaga County.
The position is made possible with support from County Executive Ryan McMahon and the Onondaga County Legislature, administered by CNY Arts.
Program Details
Application Deadline: Sunday, November 2, 2025 by 11:59 PM (end of day)
How to apply: All applications must be submitted online through Submittable
Who may apply: poets and spoken word artists residing in Onondaga County
Payment: $5,000, paid out in two $2,500 annual installments.
The Poet Laureate is encouraged to retain at least $3,000 as an honorarium; the remaining $2,000 may be allocated for expenses related to their community engagement activities.
Project Period: January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027
